Draft Masterplan Findings

Consultation findings

This report sets out the key events and findings from the consultations carried out for the statutory consultation stage of the Dunstable Town Centre Draft Masterplan process. A number of consultation events have been undertaken during this stage of the masterplan process, including public exhibitions, in order to obtain the views of local residents, businesses and local interested groups.

Draft Masterplan

The proposals put forward for discussion in this report are based on the analysis and consultation undertaken so far and should be viewed as an evolution and refinement of the three masterplan options consulted upon last year and sets out the council’s preferred approach to improving the town centre. It is important to note that this process is not yet complete and this draft document will be the subject of public consultations between 18 September – 1 November 2010. The findings of this ‘statutory consultation’ stage will be analysed and then the masterplan will be finalised in light of these consultation findings.

The final version of the masterplan is likely to be considered by the council in late 2010/early 2011.   As the proposals in this plan depart from the existing Local Plan, the document will be likely to be adopted as ‘Interim Planning Guidance’ to articulate the council’s current thinking for the town centre. The masterplan document will then form part of the evidence base for both the Draft Core Strategy and Draft Site allocations Development Plan Documents (DPDs).
